The Infant School children, staff and parents came together to celebrate Harvest.
The ideas for this year came from Psalm 65
You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.[d]
10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
11 You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
13 The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.
The Doves told the story of creation very well indeed! Each group of children had a line to say complete with actions. The children had only been in school for five weeks!
Kingfishers told about the Harvest of the Land. They sang “Cauliflowers Fluffy” most tunefully whilst displaying pictures of fruit and vegetables form the song
Owls had learnt a poem about trees. Wearing very attractive leaf crowns, they celebrated the many different kinds of trees there are in the world and the amazing variety of produce they produce..
Woodpeckers celebrated the harvest of the sea. They had learnt a poem about life under the sea and then performed a puppet show with the fishes they had made. The fishes danced to the music “Aquarium by Saint Sans”.
Harvest finished with prayers led by Mrs Akers who also congratulated the children on their lovely Harvest festival. Parents were then invited to the traditional Harvest Sale in the afternoon where there is the opportunity to buy back all the produce which has been donated in the morning.
As usual, the money goes to provide the elderly of Wargrave with a sumptuous Christmas lunch. The Year Two children will be providing the entertainment for this event.
