Identification of children’s learning difficulties is made by the Class Teacher, Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) or Executive Headteacher. Subsequent support is given in the classroom with help from Teaching Assistants or with our Specialist Support Teachers. Following discussions with parents, children may be referred to other support agencies, e.g. Educational Psychologist, for further assessment. Parents are kept informed at all stages according to the National Code of Practice. The ‘key objective’ is to create a rich environment which enables disabled pupils to participate fully in the school community by identifying and eliminating barriers that could prevent this.
