Clubs Autumn 2026

ART CLUB WEEK 1

Mrs Hall thought the Junior Art Club would start the term with a big name. Monet and his water lilies.  The children did some great Impressionist finger painting.  They learnt all about Monet and how his art in the late 1800s and early 1900s changed Art History forever.  His paintings had an unfinished look and were highly criticised at the time.  This ‘unfinished' look is what we all love nowadays and the children emulated the choppy, lively style in their paintings today by using their fingers to paint with.  They discussed movements in Art and looked at Impressionism and how the paintings capture a fleeting moment in time.  Monet would paint the same subject, always outside, at different times of day and different times of the year to show the different effects and colours of light.  The children drew 3 lilies and added lily pads and then set about painting the water, using their fingers, with a palette of blues, greens and purples, as well as lots of white acrylic paint to create a dappled effect.  They dabbed the paint and let the colours blend on the paper.   They added yellowy green lily pads and then pinks and purples for the lilies.  They also added darker shades under the flowers and pads to create depth.  Monet never used black.

We love the bright, impressionistic results below!
