  • RPI/RPJ REINDEER VISIT

    Wed 13 Nov 2019

The boys and girls across both schools got the Christmas season started with a visit from the reindeers!  Mr Cardy and his team from Riverdale Farm brought the reindeer in to school, much to the delight of children and adults alike.  The children were able to feed the reindeer, stroke them and learn about their diet, natural habitat and why they shed their antlers.

A huge thank you to Mr Cardy for giving us this treat and for persevering through a wet and windy afternoon!

  • PTA TLC DAYS

    Fri 11 Oct 2019

On the 11th and 12th October the wet weather wasn’t going to stop the parents, staff and children from turning out to give both schools an autumn make over!  A hardy team took on the long list of jobs and the results speak for themselves!  Leaves have been collected, guttering cleared, the alleyway cut back, windows cleaned and flower beds well and truly pruned.  A huge thank you to everyone who took part and fingers crossed that we enjoy a bit of sunshine when the spring clean up days come around!

  • RPJ HARVEST ASSEMBLY

    Wed 09 Oct 2019

The Junior School celebrated Harvest at St Mary's Church, bringing our fruits, vegetables and other gifts to share.  We heard how farmers are vital in the production of our food, how important patience is when growing food and how God was the first creator.

We shared our values of Grace, Courage & Friendship as well as reflecting on caring, co-operation, perseverance and sharing.

Rev Cook shared a story from the Bible  -  which gave some of us a fright (when he popped the balloons!) it made us all think.

Thank you for all your donations of food which have been given to the food bank in Reading.

  • RPI HARVEST CELEBRATION & SALE

    Tue 08 Oct 2019
On the 8th October 2019 the children in the Infant School welcomed their families to the annual Harvest Celebration.  The theme this year was ‘A tree is known by its fruit’ Matthew 12:33 and each class lead a section of the worship based around this theme. We would like to thank Mrs Creedon for leading the music for the Celebration and Mr Ferguson for coming and talking to us about the Bible passage, and how it helps us make wise choices in our lives.
  • KS1 BEKONSCOT MODEL VILLAGE TRIP

    Wed 02 Oct 2019

Key Stage 1 pupils enjoyed a fantastic educational trip to Bekonscot Model Village.  The topic this term is 'Big & Small' and it was wonderful to join the children as they explored the 1930s village and experienced the sensation of being 'giants' looking down on the tidy scenes of everyday life.

  • YR5 & YR6 BRITISH MUSEUM TRIP

    Mon 23 Sep 2019

As part of our topic on Ancient Greece Years 5 & 6 visited the British Museum.  We attended a lecture on the symbolism of the designs on Ancient Greek pots and vases – you can tell which gods and heroes are on the pots by looking at what they are wearing and carrying.  We enjoyed using our knowledge when we explored the galleries and found some tiny pots as well as enormous ones. There were also Ancient Greek toys, jewellery and perfume bottles – we had to find specific designs to answer questions.

We used iPads to discover more about the friezes from the Parthenon and we had to answer questions by pointing the iPad at the right parts of the frieze, or at the right statue.

The facts we learnt and the discoveries we made have been useful at school as we study the Ancient Greeks.

  • RPJ ANCIENT EGYPTIAN DAY

    Mon 09 Sep 2019

In Phase 1, the children took part in an ancient Egyptian workshop to kick off our project.  Our Workshop leader, Russ, talked us through the history of ancient Egypt, showed us a variety of artefacts (including 3000 year old linen cloths used for mummification!) and taught us everything from Egyptian maths to what happened to a Pharaoh's burial ceremony.  Everyone had a great day and really enjoyed the opportunity to dress up

  • INFANT ART DAY

    Thu 11 Jul 2019

On 11th July the Infant School were treated to a day of Art.  Mrs Hall and Ms Martin, assisted by some talented GCSE students from The Piggott School, worked tirelessly with all the children to create panels for the hall.  Ilona Davies kindly took the material for these panels home, cut and hemmed them in preparation for the children to paint. Art throughout the day was based  on the 'Creation' pieces by artist Caroline Street and was a wonderful way to complete the RE  topic on 'Creation' which we have been  studying this term.  A massive thank you to everyone concerned.  It was hot in the hall and the amount of art produced was astonishing.  Next time you are in school have a look  – you will be impressed!
